The front gardens at Smirle are five years old now, while the ones in the back range from five to seven years old. A number of the feature plants were purchased as fairly large speciments, but most were fairly small and inexpensive. Many of the perennials, both front and back were original to the property, transplanted from previous gardens, or donated by friends and family. On the entire property the only original plantings were a large cedar, maple and lilac at the back, and a mediums size, clipped cedar at the front. These photos were taken in the fall of 2000.
